Everton’s pursuit for a striker in the summer included a £66 million bid for a Premier League star rejected.
Following Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Manchester United, Everton attempted to sign Chelsea’s Diego Costa who eventually secured a switch back to the La Liga with Atletico Madrid.
The Blues tabled a massive £66 million bid before Chelsea and 'Atleti' struck a deal, according to Marca. The Spanish outlet claim the deal back to the Spanish capital is worth a believed £50 million.
Everton’s £66 million offer was ultimately rejected because Costa had his heart set on a return to Atletico.
While Chelsea missed out on an extra £16 million, the English champions won’t have to come against him in the Premier League.
Costa’s ability to cause havoc inside the opposition half made him a hero among Chelsea fans who are disappointed to see the back of him.
To be honest, we'll all miss these kinds of antics.
The 28-year-old will enjoy his third spell with Atletico following stints with the club in 2010 then 2012-2014.
Though he made his name between 2012 to 2014. He scored a combined 37 La Liga goals over two seasons, including weighing in with 27 in the 2013/14 campaign, not to mention heroics in the Champions League.
His eight goals in Europe saw Atletico reach the Champions League final before losing to cross-town neighbours, Real Madrid.
Costa will be able to play for Atletico once the January transfer window reopens.
